who was married to baron Ema von Saurma von zu der Jeltsch (1869-1946). Earl John Baptist was an honorary knight of the Order of Malta and the captain of the Prussian army IV Grenadier Regiment of
the Queen Augusta. In 1905, he bought an estate in
neighboring Sędzice (307 ha). One of the main shafts of coal mine "Brandenburg" in Ruda
śląska was named with his name. In 1901 they
bore a son, Francis-Georg, who in 1925 married baron Julianna von
Saurma-Jeltsch of the year 1904 born in Laskowice Oławskie. They lived in
neighboring Siędzice. In 1933, in Wroclaw the second child of John Baptist and Ema,
the daughter of Maria-Elisabeth was born. Then the second daughter Rosemarie
was born in Sędzice. Children fled west with their mother Ema from the Red Army in January 1945.
On 12 January 1945 it was ordered to prepare to
evacuate residents of Cerekwica
and Jan. 21 at -20'C frost, a long fleet
of carts pulled
by horses, oxen and cows set off. They ran West from
the Reich, with no hope of return. The noble family with service probably joined this
rolling stock. It is not known how many residents remained in the city. Not long afterwards, Soviet troops appeared
in the village. They plundered everywhere. All the houses on the main street
and Ballestrem palace were set on fire and burned to the ground. After the war, the palace ruins were
demolished and today there is no sign of it. Ruined by PGR manors farms remained
in its neighborhood. Hostilities were expected in Lower Silesia and the valuable
collections of libraries of Wroclaw was stored in the palace in Cerekwica during
World War 2. Everything was burnt irrevocably together with a castle.
